DreamWorks Animations’ Derek Chan to discuss cloud computing at Red Hat Summit

(NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Derek Chan, Head of Digital Operations for DreamWorks Animation, will keynote at the Red Hat Summit in Chicago, Sept. 1-4, 2009. Chan will discuss how DreamWorks Animation has leveraged cloud computing technologies to complete numerous films over the past several years. From the early days of “Antz,” “Shrek2” and “Madagascar” to upcoming films such as “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Shrek Forever After” cloud computing technologies have been crucial to providing the compute resources required to create these films.

Chan joined DreamWorks in 1996 and in his current role as Head of Digital Operations he provides strategic vision and planning for the animation studio’s computing infrastructure including Systems Engineering, Systems Operations, Technical Resource Management, Hardware Engineering and Virtual Studio Collaboration development. He has been at the forefront of numerous technology initiatives that have enabled DreamWorks Animation to reach unprecedented scale and creative milestones including the transition to Linux and commodity hardware from specialized hardware and software.
