(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) Hatteras Networks, the global leader in Mid-Band Ethernet solutions for enterprise access and next-generation mobile backhaul, and Occam (Nasdaq:OCNW), the leading broadband access supplier offering multiservice access platform solutions based on pure packet technologies, today announced their partnership, and commitment to interoperability and market focus alignment.

The joint Occam / Hatteras solution is aimed at optimizing and extending broadband access to residential, business and municipal customers.

The customer-driven partnership is designed to support customer grant applications for the broadband stimulus initiatives enabled through the Broadband Technologies Opportunity Program (BTOP) and Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP). These two programs are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for the advancement of broadband services in un-served and underserved communities. Through the BIP and BTOP programs over $7 billion is to be distributed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and Rural Utilities Service.

“We are delighted to be working closely with Hatteras, an Ethernet-over-copper market leader and welcome them to the Occam Networks Users’ Group conference as a Silver sponsor,” said Russ Sharer, Occam Vice President of Marketing. “Our commitment to interoperability will prove that our respective broadband access and mobile backhaul products will seamlessly work together to provide cost effective solutions for our customers.”

“We value our partnership with Occam, a market leader in the broadband access market,” said Kevin Sheehan, CEO of Hatteras Networks. “Partnering with other industry leaders is important to our customers’ efforts to confidently deploy multi-vendor best in class solutions.”

Occam Networks’ broadband access solutions empower service providers to offer profitable new voice, data and video services over copper and fiber. Occam systems deliver flexibility and scalability in a Triple Play world. Over 2.5 million BLC 6000 ports are currently deployed at over 340 service providers worldwide. Hatteras Networks is redefining the way carriers think about Ethernet services. Hatteras Networks’ EFM service delivery solutions are leading service providers worldwide to a significant expansion of the Metro Ethernet market, which had previously been limited to the fiber footprint. Historically, T1s and E1s have been the fundamental building blocks for voice and data business services. Now, service providers can cost-effectively offer 45 Mbps and higher Mid-Band Ethernet services over existing copper facilities, enabling businesses to migrate from legacy Frame Relay, ATM and T1/E1 connections to transparent Ethernet services for voice and data business connectivity, infrastructure backhaul and mobile wireless backhaul solutions.

Already deployed on five continents, Hatteras Networks solutions are enabling a market expansion for carriers as significant for business services as “triple play” is for residential. For more information, visit www.hatterasnetworks.com.
