(Morrisville, N.C.) Engineers, industrial designers, small business owners, product design vendors, software developers, and other representatives from the Triangle technology community attended the third annual RTP Product Design Street Faire this past Saturday, September 12. Hosted by the RTP Product Development Guild – a local group of engineers and designers working together to improve the regional economy – the free outdoor networking and educational event featured food and drinks from Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q, kids activities, and exhibits by leading area product designers and affiliated professionals.

“We had great weather and a diverse group of exhibitors which helped contribute to a steady stream of people coming by to network at a grassroots level and learn about product development,” said Guild President Montie Roland.

Roland said this year’s crowd contained attendees from a wider variety of companies than past Street Faires, as well as a larger number of out-of-work technology professionals in the process of leveraging their skills to start small businesses of their own.

“It was great to see the networking going on between vendors and new small business owners who are looking for help and guidance in getting their businesses up-and-running,” Roland said, adding, “Those men and women are the straws that stir our regional economy, and I was thrilled to see our product design community listening and offering advice and resources to support them.”

This year’s event was sponsored by Montie Design, the RTP Product Development Guild, Studio Hagler, and Trimech, with Gilmore Global as a contributor. Although final attendance numbers were not immediately available, last year’s Street Faire drew well over 200 people.

The Street Faire is designed to connect area businesses and manufacturers with product design and prototyping professionals in the Research Triangle Park region. It is one of many business and educational events produced by the RTP Product Development Guild, which also hosts networking meetings, lunch-and-learn seminars, and other events at member locations throughout the year.
