(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) NCTechNews, North Carolina’s technology news source, is accepting nominations from businesses and organizations for its “Biotech Story of the Year” top ten list for 2009. The list of stories will provide NCTechNews readers with detailed information about each top ten nominee and their newsworthy milestones contributing to the life sciences community in North Carolina. Every qualifying organization or business submitting a nomination will appear on the final list compilation to be published on NCTechNews, along with a hot link to their individual websites, with the top ten headlining a feature article and press release announcing the final list.

“North Carolina is bursting with biotech innovations and startups changing the face of the life sciences industry in the U.S. and overseas,” NCTechNews Editor/Publisher David Menzies said. According to Menzies, North Carolina online and print media do a great job of highlighting important general business stories, but the growth of the life sciences sector is precipitating its own notoriety “beyond the major players” and larger corporations.

“It’s the small-to-mid-size biotech firms that are really spurring innovation, and they deserve their time in the spotlight to show peer companies and startups that they can succeed in making valuable impacts,” he said.

Nominations for Biotech Story of the Year will be judged by a panel of North Carolina-based technology and life sciences innovators. The contest is open to any bio-related business or organization operating out of North Carolina; deadline for submissions is November 6, 2009, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
