WiFiciency President Jason Angel to deliver New Horizons lecture at RPI
(Cary, N.C.) Reality television, like entrepreneurship, can be a grueling experience that is not for the faint of heart. Jason Angel, president and COO of WiFiciency, Inc. (www.wificiency.com), will discuss lessons learned from 15 years of entrepreneurship, including how one of WiFiciency’s companies appeared on ABC’s “Shark Tank” reality show, as part of the New Horizons Speaker Series presented by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Office of E*ntrepreneurship.
Angel will deliver his talk on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 4:15 p.m. in room 337 of the Darrin Communications Center on the RPI campus. The lecture series is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.
Angel was a varsity letterman at RPI who captained the baseball team to its first ever appearance in the College World Series, all the while starting his sales career as a sales representative for Vector Marketing. In his first year, he was their number two sales rep in the Northeast, and at age 19 opened up his own office where he went on to recruit more than 150 sales reps.
After graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in management, he embarked on an illustrious entrepreneurial career as a founding member of various startup organizations. He has helped numerous companies achieve rapid growth by building regional and national sales organizations, improving operations and recruiting top talent through what he calls “vision mapping.” Angel has also earned an MBA in e-business from the University of Phoenix and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in health leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without RPI,” said Angel. “Taking classes in technology and meeting an amazing network of contacts positioned me for success. I couldn’t have gotten that combination at any other business school.”
Most recently, Angel founded Worthington Healthcare Corporation, which merged with WiSpots in June to form WiFiciency, Inc. WiFiciency is a holding company that develops, acquires and manages cutting-edge software solutions for specialty medical practices, hospitals and other healthcare environments.
In his lecture, Angel will pass along lessons learned from his varied entrepreneurial experiences and give some behind-the-scenes details of WiFiciency CEO Kevin Flannery’s appearance on “Shark Tank.” Flannery appeared on the program on Aug. 9 to promote WiSpots’ Patient Interaction Centers, a wireless informational, productivity and entertainment option for patients in medical wait environments. Two airings of the episode have exposed WiSpots to more than 7 million viewers and led to numerous inquiries from partners, investors and fellow entrepreneurs.
“Jason’s experience with the ‘Shark Tank’ TV show and with the basic day-to-day challenges of being an entrepreneur provide exactly the lessons learned that will be so valuable for our students,” said Robert Chernow, vice provost for entrepreneurship and clinical professor at RPI.
WiFiciency, Inc. is the holding company of the WiMedical, WiSpots, WiMedia, WiScription and WiSoft brand divisions. WiFiciency is leading the charge to improve productivity and eliminate the inefficiencies of today’s healthcare system with a suite of physician/patient-centric software and hardware electronic records management and maintenance solutions; and Patient Interaction Centers that improve patient satisfaction and maximize revenue for physician practices.
