(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) Quintiles Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) William “Bill” Deam has been named to the “CIO Hall of Fame” which selects honorees for their leadership in the CIO community and contributions to the advancement of the profession. Bill Deam is responsible for Quintiles’ IT organization in nearly 60 countries around the world and has expanded his role beyond IT to include Quintiles’ Enterprise Transformation unit which helps drive change across the company.

“The CIO Hall of Fame is our most prestigious individual award, honoring a widely respected, high-impact IT career of distinguished achievement,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine & events.

“The men and women inducted into our Hall of Fame since 1997 represent the most outstanding examples of CIOs worldwide. They have advanced the status of the CIO profession, shown courage and innovative spirit in transforming business with technology, and inspired the next generation of IT leaders.”

Six 2009 honorees will be inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame during “CIO: The Year Ahead Summit & Hall of Fame Honors,” held in Indian Wells, California, November 8-10.

“It is very humbling to receive this honor from CIO,” Deam said. “Throughout the course of my career, the IT profession has seen remarkable change as technology advances and the needs of our constituents evolve. For much of my professional life, IT was seen as a service for the core of most businesses. At Quintiles, however, IT is an integral part of the long-term strategy and how we help our customers succeed in the new health landscape,” he explained.

“While this is framed as an individual award, I would argue that it is shared by the talented IT professionals at Quintiles,” Deam continued. “It is the hundreds of team members that have delivered on our promises.”

Under Deam’s leadership, Quintiles has delivered numerous highly impactful, enterprise-wide technology solutions and services. Deam’s IT organization received the 2008 Quintiles Quantum Leap award for the most significant contribution to the company, awarded for impactful innovation initiatives.

Quintiles’ 23,000 employees now have one-click access to core business applications and services through a corporate portal using single sign-on technology. This access helps the organization anticipate customer needs as the company works as an ally to deliver on common goals.

Customer partnerships have been strengthened and company leaders empowered to develop new services through Quintiles’ development of a customer platform that provides transparency to operational data, analytics, and project performance.

Project finance and billing processes have been streamlined and standardized across the company through the implementation of a global project accounting system in Quintiles’ Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environment. Quintiles delivery of a multi-language enterprise document and records management system has significantly increased project collaboration across the company and across the globe.
