(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) After nearly a year of operating as a subsidiary of RTI International, MasiMax Resources, Inc., became a new division within RTI Jan. 1. RTI acquired MasiMax, a health communication and marketing firm based in Rockville, Md., in March 2009. Since then, MasiMax staff members have worked alongside RTI colleagues to plan the integration and have begun collaborating on research projects.

“The past 10 months provided us the opportunity to get to know our new colleagues and learn a great deal about how we can work together to create new business opportunities,” said Marilyn Massey-Ball, founder of MasiMax and division vice president of the new unit. “Going forward, we will work even closer with RTI researchers to expand their use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that enhance health and other dimensions of the human condition.”

The addition of MasiMax is designed to strengthen RTI’s project communication and marketing capabilities.

“We are pleased to welcome our newest team members as full partners in our operations and business,” said Wayne Holden, executive vice president of RTI’s Social Statistical and Environmental Sciences Group. “As we continue to integrate them into our operations, we will be better positioned to meet the growing communication project requirements of our clients.”

Staff members from MasiMax research and analyze complex health information and translate that information for dissemination to target audiences, including health professionals, researchers, policymakers and the general public, using various communication strategies and approaches.

Their core communication expertise in support of client needs includes media outreach and public relations, marketing, partnership development, science and promotional writing, publications and materials development, Web design and maintenance, conference and exhibit management, and clearinghouse support. All are strategically employed to serve their client base of primarily federal agencies, as well as state and local government, nonprofit, university and private industry clients.

In addition to Rockville, staff members are also located in Washington, D.C.
