RUaGamer, Karate International of Cary partner to offer middle school track-out camps

(Cary, N.C.) RUaGamer, the Triangle’s premier interactive social gaming destination, is partnering with Karate International of Cary to offer a fun and unique full-day track-out camp for middle school students beginning in February 2010. Both businesses are conveniently located in the same shopping center just off Buck Jones Road in the Crossroads area of Cary.

The camp offers a one-of-a-kind combination of individual and group activities to build problem solving and hand/eye coordination skills. On-site instructors will be guiding campers in playing challenging PC and console video games at RUaGamer and developing mind, body, and spirit at Karate International of Cary in a supervised interactive setting.

“There are a slew of studies pointing to the cognitive learning benefits of video games for children,” Jeff Torello, president of RUaGamer, said, adding, “Even the most simple game can help to boost brainpower, not to mention the benefits of today’s  interactive games like the Wii that map individual movement to game play.”

Torello added that the decision making, creativity, and social skills development offered through track-out camps at RUaGamer compliment the philosophical and ethical teachings of Karate International of Cary, helping students develop a balance of self.

The special camps will provide a 10:1 camper/counselor ratio, with a minimum camper age of 10 years old. Games used for campers will be age appropriate, with many based on history, city building, and governance, indirectly teaching children about aspects of life on earth while engaging them in problem solving.

“Students excel when subject matter pushes them to the edge of their abilities, a core learning principal reflected in the challenges offered through RUaGamer and Karate International of Cary,” Tony Letourneau, Owner and Master Level Instructor of Karate International of Cary, said.

Both RUaGamer and Karate International of Cary are fully insured and located in a highly visible location. The state-of-the-art RUaGamer facility provides a safe, supervised social environment for children and adults with over 4,000 square feet of gaming space, with 20 gaming PC’s on 22″ monitors; 24 Xbox 360’s on 26″ HD LCD televisions; 8 Xbox 360’s on 42″HD LCD televisions; 2 Wii’s, each on a 100″ projection screen; and a “Rockstar Area” featuring a 12′ x 12′ truss system with surround sound, DJ lighting, and a 120″ projection screen.
