(Winston-Salem, N.C.) DataChambers, a North Carolina-based technology firm, today announced that its CEO Nicholas Kottyan will serve as 2010 chairman of the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina.

“Despite a challenging economy, NCTA has experienced significant growth and nearly doubled the number of new members who joined last year,” Kottyan said. “That bodes well for the future of the industry and the agenda NCTA is pursuing.”

During 2009, NCTA announced a major initiative to promote job growth and improve information technology education across North Carolina. The platform included research and development incentives, tax structures and appropriations to encourage job creation, and a renewed emphasis on education in science, technology, engineering and math.

“I look forward to building on the important work we began last year and advocating for policies that will benefit North Carolinians statewide,” Kottyan said.

Kottyan has previously served as NCTA’s vice chairman and as its VP of membership. He has more than 25 years of experience in the technology field and has headed both publicly traded and privately held firms.

Kottyan is a former senior vice president of CT Communications Inc., a local telephone company in Concord, N.C., where he led an expansion into new long distance, wireless PCS and Internet services markets. He also founded Teledial America of North Carolina and served as CEO of both Peak 10 Inc. and Phone America of Carolina.

At DataChambers, Kottyan has helped the company expand its operations and grow its way through one of the most challenging economic periods on record – offering solutions that help cash-strapped companies get more out of their limited information technology budgets.

The North Carolina Technology Association’s mission is “Making North Carolina #1 in Technology and Technology #1 in North Carolina.” The organization does this through three main focus areas: executive engagement, public affairs and a knowledge workforce.
