Montie Design hosting webinar on best practices in product design, development, and launch

April 06, 2010 By: David D. Menzies Category: Engineering, Events, Product Design

(Morrisville, N.C.) Collaborative product design and development firm Montie Design is hosting an engaging 45-minute live Web conference detailing the development and launch of their original product, the X-Rest portable shooting rest.

“From Concept to Market in Six Months and $6,000: A 45-minute Webinar Case Study in Product Design, Development, and Launch” will be presented live on April 22, 26 and 27. Hosted by Montie Roland, company president, the webinar will provide product management professionals, entrepreneurs, industrial designers, and engineers with insight into processes and capabilities required for bringing a new product to market.

“The scope of issues we had to manage in bringing the X-Rest from concept to market — including feedback we received from the shooting community — was broad,” Roland said. “We faced firsthand the start-to-finish steps of launching a new product on a limited budget and schedule, and learned lessons we can apply to helping our clients as they themselves walk this path.”

Webinar registration is available online at http://montie.eventbrite.com/. There is no charge to attend, but each of the three sessions is limited to 24 participants.

Designed to meet the needs of all shooters as well as most firearms, the easy-to-carry X-Rest weighs less than one pound and disassembles easily in three pieces, fitting neatly into a small carrying case. Unlike conventional shooting rests, which are heavy and complex, the X-Rest — made of sturdy yet lightweight aluminum — provides steady support for differently sized long guns, ranging from semi-automatic and bolt action rifles to shotguns, carbines and pistols.

Conceived as a “test” product to give Montie Design staff an understanding of the entire process of getting a product to market and enable them to apply lessons learned to their portion of the design and development process, the X-Rest has taken off in popularity within the competitive and recreational shooting community and sparked interest on behalf of the Research Triangle Park design community. Montie Design’s first “test” product, an innovative radio frequency identification (RFID) detector card released in January 2009, is now being sold throughout the U.S. and seven foreign countries.

By sharing information and best practices through these webinars and other outreach programs –  such as a recent well-attended networking event March 26th, launch of an interactive map to connect out-of-state business professionals with quality Research Triangle Park-area manufacturing design and production talent, and an annual Street Faire bringing hundreds of attendees and exhibitors together in a relaxing, family friendly atmosphere – Montie Design is seeking to find new ways to improve the regional engineering design and manufacturing economy in the Triangle.
