The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina, today announced its 2010 legislative agenda at a press conference hosted by Rep. Joe Tolson, Co-Chair of the Joint Information Technology Oversight Committee. The press conference was part of NCTA’s annual Technology Day at the Legislature, which also featured a legislative breakfast sponsored by Cisco and an Exhibitor Showcase highlighting top technology companies from across the state. Sen. Joe Sam Queen, Co-Chair of Senate Select Committee on Energy, Science and Technology was also on-hand for the event.

The 2010 Public Policy Agenda focuses on five key areas: encouraging job creation through the State Tax Structure and Appropriations; supporting the knowledge economy through various state education strategies; growing the defense and security cluster in North Carolina; encouraging e-citizenry and maximizing use of state information technology funds; and making North Carolina a leader in the green economy.

“As North Carolina companies continue to recover and rebuild following a difficult economy, it is more important than ever that law makers and technology leaders work together to promote technology initiatives in our state,” said Brooks Raiford, president and CEO of NCTA. “Technology Day at the Legislature is such an important event that brings together the leaders that shape the politics and innovation in North Carolina, and to look for even better ways to ensure that our state remains at the forefront in technology.”

Area technology companies participating in the Exhibitor Showcase included Accenture, AT&T, CGI, Cisco, Deloitte, DMR Solutions, EMC, GigaBeam, IBM, ITT Technical Institute, Lenovo, NC Stem Community Collaborative, Oracle, Partnership for Defense Innovation, SciQuest Inc., SkillSoft Corporation and Triangle Game Initiative.
