Montie Design Releases Architectural Table

June 16, 2010 By: David D. Menzies Category: Product Design

(Morrisville, N.C.) Collaborative product design and development firm Montie Design has expanded its innovative line of products to include high-end accessories with its first-ever piece of functional furniture, the Architectural Table. It will be unveiled to the public at a June 25 Final Friday event at the Montie Design offices.

The Architectural Table is stylishly designed with aluminum, stainless steel, and glass to reflect an industrial theme similar to girder architecture used in bridges and other mega-structure designs.

“Customers were getting back to us with compliments about the attractive industrial styling of our various products in addition to their functionality,” Montie Roland, company president, said, adding, “We wanted to do something fresh and different, so we designed the Architectural Table.”

“The table was an exercise in taking the design language from existing Montie Design products and extending them into a piece of furniture,” Michael Poorman, the table’s designer, said.

The Architectural Table features legs and trusses water-jetted out of sturdy aluminum, the same material as the blocks that hold the leg assemblies together. A 36” glass top and 24” glass shelf allow views of the bottom of the table which reflect a style reminiscent of girder architecture used in bridges and military designs. All told, the Tactical Table boasts a 39” x 39” footprint and is 17.5” tall with a 6.25” clearance between the glass top and shelf.

“This is a piece of furniture that can support active use in a crazy place like our foyer, while being stylish enough to be a real conversation piece in an executive’s office or in the home,” Roland said, adding, “It’s on par design-wise with anything you could find in a high-end furniture store.”

The Architectural Table will be on display at a June 25 “Final Friday” networking event at the Montie Design offices. Held on the last Friday of each quarter, Final Friday events are casual get-togethers of members of the product design and manufacturing industry in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. The events are catered with food and drinks, with music and plenty of room to mingle and exchange information with fellow designers, software developers, engineers, marketing and business professionals. The June 25 Final Friday begins at 4:30 p.m. at Montie Design, 100 Dominion Drive, Suite 101, in Morrisville. There is no charge to attend this event, but attendees must register to attend at http://endofquarter.eventbrite.com.
