North Carolina Technology Association Expands Membership with 83 New Companies in First Half of 2010
(Raleigh, N.C.) The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), the primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina, announced today the addition of more than 80 new member companies since the beginning of 2010, indicating another high growth year for the organization. The organization is on track to meet its overall goal of 150 new members for the year, following last year’s record-breaking growth of 164 new members. NCTA is also enjoying an increasingly diversified membership, as many new members are coming from different regions within the state and industries not traditionally viewed as technology-based.
“We are delighted to welcome each of these companies to NCTA,” said Brooks Raiford, NCTA’s president and CEO. “Our steady membership growth affirms North Carolina’s commitment to making technology number one in the state. The expanding presence of companies not traditionally seen as technology-based in our ranks demonstrates the importance of technology across all industries and regions.”
NCTA credits its growth to a number of factors that include growth in markets outside of RTP, with many new members coming from Charlotte and the Triad area; quality networking and professional development events for members; and expanded online resources, such as access to NCTA’s job board, monthly IT job trends, news feeds and a searchable member directory.
Many of NCTA’s newest non-traditional members have been categorized as ‘IT Professionals’ who join seeking peer support and content for their IT executives representing industries that are not technology or professional services. A few new IT Professional members for 2010 include Inmar, TransAmerica Reinsurance and Implus Footcare. NCTA has also welcomed a number of companies relocating to North Carolina or expanding from other locations, which will improve the state’s business climate and bring hundreds of jobs to the region. These include Research in Motion (RIM), the inventor and maker of BlackBerry®; IEM, a defense contractor; and ReadSoft, an international software solutions company that is establishing a development lab in North Carolina. Other new members include Bandwidth.com, Freudenberg IT and Varrow.
