(Cary, N.C.) Mikael Hagström, Executive Vice President of Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific for business analytics software leader SAS, has been elected as Chair of the Executive Council (ExCo) of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU). He will serve a two-year term.

Composed of senior executives from 18 of the largest American multinational corporations operating in Europe, the AmCham EU Executive Council advises the most senior policymakers in Europe. Its focus areas include climate change, innovation, trade and development of a world-class work force. AmCham EU is one of the most influential groups in Europe and is renowned for its work promoting transatlantic cooperation, business, trade and competitiveness issues.

“The focus of AmCham EU is to drive and maximize growth and investment in Europe and trans-Atlantic trade is key to achieving this objective,” Hagström said. “Our job is to ensure that Europe remains an attractive place in which to invest and do business because growth in Europe will help drive the global economy forward.”

“We are confident that under Mikael’s able leadership of ExCo we can work collaboratively with the EU institutions to find solutions to the economic challenges we are all facing and strengthen Europe’s global competitiveness,” said Susan Danger, Managing Director, AmCham EU.

Hagström’s AmCham EU ExCo role complements that of SAS CEO Jim Goodnight’s as a longtime participant in the World Economic Forum, where the SAS co-founder contributes to discussions of global issues and influences the public policy agenda.

Total US investment in Europe is about €702 billion (US$894 billion), representing 4.1 million jobs. AmCham EU members consist of 140 companies from many business sectors.
