Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Highlight Biobased Economy in North Carolina

(Charlotte, N.C.) Today, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Charlotte, N.C., to visit Metrolina Greenhouses, a family-owned plant services company that’s innovating sustainable practices as the largest single-site heated greenhouse in the United States. Secretary Vilsack will tour the facilities, including a wood boiler system that was developed with assistance from USDA Rural Development through the Rural Energy for America Program.

Following his tour, Secretary Vilsack will hold a press availability to highlight the work of companies like Metrolina to build a thriving, bio-based economy that will create more jobs here at home, as well as USDA’s support for businesses and communities to further utilize sustainable energy sources.
