(Greensboro, N.C.) U.S. Senator Kay Hagan today announced that Alotech, Inc. has been selected to receive a $4.5 million contract from the United States Air Force to provide aircraft parts and auxiliary equipment for the F-16 logistics support team.  The Sanford-based Alotech is one of three Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) companies to be selected for the multiple-award, five-year contract.

“Alotech’s selection for this significant contract offers further evidence that our state’s thriving defense businesses produce high quality products that support our troops and create jobs for North Carolinians,” Hagan said. “I congratulate Alotech on its selection and am proud that a North Carolina small business will help build F-16 Fighting Falcons.”

“We at Alotech are proud to have been selected as one of three HUBZone manufacturers in the nation to furnish parts for the USAF F-16 Logistics Support Team,” said Alotech Chief Operating Officer Tommy Kirk.  “This selection is a tribute to our highly qualified machining and fabrication workforce, many of whom received their initial training at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC.”

“We are grateful to Senator Hagan and her staff for promoting the federal government’s small business set-aside program that has allowed us the opportunity to win this defense contract,” said Kirk.  “We have also benefited from the assistance of the North Carolina’s Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC), an organization administered by N.C. State University and operated in partnership with US Small Business Administration.”

Earlier this month, Hagan co-hosted the 11th Annual Defense and Economic Development Trade Show in Fayetteville to bring together more than 800 businesses, defense contractors, soldiers and federal officials to promote growth in North Carolina’s defense industry.

In 2011, businesses in 87 of North Carolina’s 100 counties were awarded or executed $4.06 billion in prime contracts from the Department of Defense, an increase of 13 percent and $471 million over 2010.
