HICKORY, N.C.–Corning MobileAccess, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE: GLW) Telecommunications segment, today announced the launch of MobileAccessGX, a high-powered, 40-watt distributed antenna system (DAS) remote unit designed to meet growing wireless coverage and capacity needs for indoor, outdoor, and large open environments. The weather-proofed MobileAccessGX supports the wireless service combinations used by leading carriers while avoiding unnecessary and costly cell site build-outs.
“With the introduction of MobileAccessGX, we now offer a suite of solutions to address nearly every conceivable wireless need,” said Jeff Kunst, vice president, Global Product Line Management, Corning MobileAccess. “GX is an ideal solution for dispersed and wide-ranging topologies, like college campuses, and greatly helps wireless carriers better meet the needs of these customers without extensive and costly infrastructure overhaul.”
“The DAS market has seen major consolidation over the past few years, but emerging vendors like Corning continue to meet the evolving needs of the end user,” said Aditya Kaul, practice director at ABI Research. “Ranked first in ABI Research’s DAS equipment vendor matrix, Corning provides a unique blend of innovation to the wireless world.”
Combining MobileAccessGX with the medium-powered MobileAccessHX or lower-powered MobileAccess2000 DAS remotes, offers carriers the flexibility and cost effectiveness to address nearly every indoor and outdoor wireless concern with fewer antennas, a smaller footprint, less radio-frequency-power waste and base-station drain.
The MobileAccessGX solution offers:
40 watts of power per band for reliable, high-powered connectivity and capacity in transitional areas
A single, low-loss fiber connection from a centralized headend for cell, PCS, 700MHz and AWS services, available in SISO and MIMO configurations
Scalable multi-band radio frequency (RF) transport, with up to four bands per enclosure
A ruggedized, NEMA 4-rated housing, designed to handle harsh weather and environments
Common headend architecture for combination deployment with other MobileAccess solutions
Full integration with Corning’s leading OptiTap™ solution, simplifying connectivity.
Corning has become an industry leader in expanding the communications capabilities in large venues such as M&T Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens, and for events such as Super Bowl XLVI, CTIA WIRELESS 2012, and multiple venues associated with the 2012 Democratic and Republican national conventions.
