Garner technology company expands into managed services field
(Garner, N.C.) Local technology solutions firm WingSwept is leveraging an impressive history of client success in officially rolling-out a suite of managed services solutions, addressing a market which has seen under-performing, smaller MSPs stagnate in a down economy. The company’s Total Care Managed Services offering was formalized just within the past two-to-three months in response to needs it began to recognize in late 2008.
In actuality, WingSwept has had customers for nearly a decade in which it was setup under the model of managed services. Its new Total Care package was designed to offer the same level of service and pricing to a larger portion of the company’s 1,500+ strong customer base. WingSwept managed services offerings center around network management through best-practice bundled solutions which allow clients to avoid costly disruptions and downtime in the workplace.
“We strive to give every customer peace of mind by delivering consistent quality technology solutions that enhance their opportunities for success,” said Jay Strickland, WingSwept founder and president. Strickland said that while his company’s managed services offering enables it to engage clients as a trusted technology partner, WingSwept is driven to make sure it is constantly adapting to its clients’ needs and ever-changing technology.
Strickland’s approach to adaptability seems to be working, with WingSwept continuing to add to its list of clients and two dozen industries served - the company hit the mark of having clients in all 50 states in 2007 - as well as staff, which now number 20 employees. WingSwept’s four divisions, Web Development, Government Services, Vertical Marketing, and Network Support serve clients which include Fortune 250 companies, small and medium sized businesses, nonprofits, educational organizations, and Federal, State and Local governments.
All four of WingSwept’s divisions provide high-end technology consulting which, according to Strickland, his company is able to provide through his staff’s extensive knowledgebase and experience at a cost-effective rate. “In this economy, people need proactive support at a fixed cost, which is what we can provide,” he said.
WingSwept’s staying power is reflected in Strickland’s sticking to his business concept after starting a technology consultancy in 1995 on the side as an undergraduate student at North Carolina State University, following a Web development project in which he gained his first two clients (who are both still with WingSwept). Strickland continued to consult while in the Air Force, nurturing WingSwept into the consultancy it is today. After concluding his military career in Colorado Springs, Strickland moved back to his collegiate roots in Raleigh and was drawn to Garner due to its promise as a market poised for growth.
In addition to involving himself and his company in the Garner community, Strickland retains close, active ties to N.C. State. This past January, he was honored to be appointed to the university’s Department of Computer Science Strategic Advisory Board which helps develop the strategic plans and deal with challenges that arise.
“Another way we’ve been able to give back to my alma mater is by creating the Carol Miller Student Endowment, in which we can help innovative students and organizations while honoring a teacher who helped shape my future,” he said.
As far as the biggest challenge Strickland sees for WingSwept in today’s economy, he points to a very small margin for mistakes. Strickland said his company has learned to carefully calculate and manage necessary risks so not to jeopardize everything the WingSwept team has worked for.
Despite challenging times, WingSwept plans to follow its existing pattern of sustainable growth, “so we can continue to meet and exceed our customer’s evolving technology requirements,” Strickland said.
“We definitely see growth in our future and believe that we will come out the current economic situation stronger than many of our peers,” he added.
