Southeast Venture Philanthropy Summit Set

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.–The first Southeast Venture Philanthropy Summit will bring some 200 leaders of regional life science companies and national disease foundations to Chapel Hill April 3 and 4 to explore alliances bearing new opportunities. The Summit will connect company leaders, academic researchers, funding specialists and executives from 30 foundations, including the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations and other major philanthropic groups targeting a wide range of diseases and conditions. The Summit has been organized by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in conjunction with BioFlorida, Georgia Bio, NCBIO, Southeast BIO and Virginia Bio. Biofuels Center to Host Civic and Small-scale Convening in Greensboro

Research Triangle Park to Unveil New Master Plan

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.–The Research Triangle Foundation, which manages the storied Research Triangle Park (RTP), is slated to deliver two major announcements in early November. At the first event, on Nov. 9, Bob Geolas, President and CEO of the Research Triangle Foundation, and other leaders will unveil a Master Plan for the Park.  The plan is intended to give the Park a more urban design that will attract a new generation of entrepreneurs and creative employees.  The Park also will announce the selection of a private partner to support the redevelopment efforts. John P. McConnell Named 2012 NCTA 21 Awards Outstanding Achievement Winner

McConnell has been named the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award winner at the NCTA 21 Awards Gala, being held on November 8. NCTA will recognize excellence in the tech sector in 21 categories. The Outstanding Achievement Award honors an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the advancement of the technology industry throughout their career. McConnell has been the recipient of numerous growth and industry awards including being recognized as one the top CEOs in the nation for stock price appreciation. He co-founded Medic Computer Systems in 1982 and served as its Chairman and CEO for 16 years.. McConnell led Medic through its initial public offering and its sale to Misys for $923 million in 1997. Diagnostics and Molecular Therapeutics Roundtable to be Held at NC Biotechnology Center
