Durham Entrepreneurs Sought to Participate in First Annual Creative Food Drive

Durham’s vibrant entrepreneurial community is being called upon to supply up to 40 teams of innovative participants for the first annual C.F.D {Creative Food Drive} to benefit the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Durham on Saturday, October 15. The teams being formed between now and the end of September will compete by designing and constructing any type of standalone “sculptures” they can conceptualize made out of non-perishable food items. The competition and food collection will take place at the Durham Farmers Market at 501 Foster Street, next to the historic Durham Bulls Stadium. (more…)

Electronic Recyclers International Job Fair Saturday in Badin

Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the world’s largest recycler of electronic waste, and first tenant of the new Badin Business Park at the site of the former Alcoa aluminum smelting plant, will kick off its anticipated job fair this Saturday, July 16th, at 9:00 a.m. The job fair will take place at the Badin Fire Station, right across the street from the Badin Business Park. Prospective employees are welcome to come any time during the “meet-and-greet” style event, where ERI’s Human Resources director and Badin Regional Plant Manager will be on hand to describe the operation, answer questions and discuss potential positions. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Launches BackPack Buddies Challenge

MIX 101.5’s BackPack Buddies Food Drive is a joint effort between WRAL-FM and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS).  The BackPack Buddies program provides weekend meals for children in need.  Last year WRAL-FM, their listeners and other donors helped IFFS add more than 193 children to IFFS’ BackPack Buddies program – a 22% increase. North Carolina Competes for Attention at BIO 2011

(Washington, D.C. & Raleigh, N.C.) The 2011 BIO International Convention, one of the most influential global tradeshows for biotechnology, wrapped-up its recent run in Washington, D.C. It boasted an attendance of 15,626, up slightly from 15,322 a year ago and 14,352 in 2009. International competition for developing business opportunities was tough: Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Korea, Belgium, China, Japan, Spain and Australia all sent large delegations to make important connections. The U.S. countered with many states — including North Carolina — hosting centralized pavilions at the event to generate publicity and drive partnering meetings for multiple exhibitors and sponsors. Foot Traffic, NC Innovations Slow to Materialize at BIO 2011

(Washington, D.C.) Major announcements from North Carolina companies were few and far between at the first full day of exhibits at the BIO International Convention 2011 in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. Foot traffic overall seemed to be down from previous BIO International events, including at the North Carolina pavilion which featured many familiar faces and just a handful of new companies. While no major announcements were coming from the NC pavilion, several other states across the country were pushing hard to drive the spotlight to new and emerging life sciences operations. (more…)
