Myers Bigel to Present Review of IP Caselaw

RALEIGH, N.C.–Myers Bigel Sibley & Sajovec, P.A. (Myers Bigel), the largest independent patent law firm in North Carolina, will be hosting a “Review of IP Caselaw for May 2013″ on May 28 at 3 p.m. The discussion will be led by Peter Siddoway, an attorney in the firm’s litigation group. The presentation is the third in a series of caselaw discussions sponsored by Myers Bigel this year. Among the topics to be discussed are recent Inter Partes Review decisions released by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, as well as the Federal Circuit’s decision in Biosig Instruments, Inc. v. Nautilus, Inc. Mitch Bigel, an attorney in the firm’s electrical group, will also give an extended presentation of the several opinions issued by the Federal Circuit in the CLS Bank, Int’l v. Myers Bigel to Share Patent Law Best Practices at BIO 2013 in Chicago

East Carolina Sues Cisco Over Registered Trademark

GREENVILLE, N.C.–East Carolina University has filed a lawsuit in federal court against Cisco Systems, Inc., seeking injunctive relief and damages for the unauthorized use of ECU’s federally registered trademark “Tomorrow Starts Here.”  “ECU has used the mark ‘Tomorrow Starts Here’ for over a decade, including in national advertisements and publications such as Forbes and Wired,” said Chancellor Steve Ballard. “We feel it is essential to take action to protect that defining trademark of our identity and vision.” (more…)

Open Invention Network Demonstrates Ongoing Positive Momentum in Licensing Program in 2012

ITC Administrative Judge Gives Rambus Bad News

(Sunnyvale, Calif. & Chapel Hill, N.C.) Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq:RMBS), one of the world’s premier technology licensing companies, today announced it received notice that the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for its U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) action against LSI Logic, MediaTek, ST Microelectronics and other Respondents has issued an Initial Determination. According to the notice, ALJ Theodore R. Essex found there to be no violation of Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 for the patents in question. The action is Investigation Number 337-TA-753.
