T-Mobile’s 4G Network Now Available in Charlotte and Raleigh

(Charlotte, N.C.) T-Mobile USA, Inc. has announced that the company is doubling the theoretical peak download speed of its 4G network in Charlotte and Raleigh, as well as surrounding areas. MCNC Plans Upgrade

(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) MCNC announced today that the video services infrastructure on the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) is scheduled to be upgraded on July 1. MCNC has entered the final testing phases of Cisco TelePresence interoperability with H.323 point-to-point (standard on most desktops) and multipoint video services, and TelePresence Management System (TMS) scheduling. Also, a select pilot group is testing centrally-managed soft client licenses for additional devices including laptop and desktop computers and tablets. New services are scheduled to be widely available to NCREN users during the fall semester of the 2011-2012 school year. (more…)

CommScope to Acquire Argus Technologies

The terms of the agreement are not being disclosed. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2011. Argus Technologies, headquartered in Bella Vista, New South Wales, Australia, provides a wide array of high performance, high technology antennas for base stations, stadiums and venues, and other wireless applications. MCNC Selects Two Out-of-State Firms for NC Taxpayer-Funded Project

(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) MCNC and its northwestern North Carolina project sub-recipient ERC Broadband (ERC), announced today that three companies have been selected to construct 1,200 miles of new fiber optics as part of the second phase expansion of the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN). The construction award shared by these vendors is estimated at $40 million. The entire expansion of NCREN, called the Golden LEAF Rural Broadband Initiative (GLRBI), has an estimated project cost of approximately $146 million. (more…)
