Clearwire and Sprint to launch 4G in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh

(Charlotte, N.C.) Clearwire Communications, LLC, an operating subsidiary of Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR) and Sprint (NYSE:S) today announced plans to launch their respective 4G mobile Internet services in additional cities in the fourth quarter of 2009. Each of the companies will offer 4G under their own 4G brand. Clearwire and Sprint will each launch 4G service in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh, North Carolina; Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas in November. Service will be available from both companies in Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii in early December. Consumers and businesses should expect to see additional network expansions throughout these cities, and a wide-range of independent marketing and advertising initiatives. (more…)

Walker to acquire assets of Windstream Supply

(Welcome, N.C.) Walker and Associates, Inc., a prominent, woman-owned, national distributor of telecommunications products and network deployment services based in Welcome, N.C., has agreed to purchase the non-affiliate operating assets of Windstream Supply LLC, a subsidiary of Windstream Corporation, based in Little Rock, Ark. The purchase will include the hiring of Windstream Supply’s sales and marketing staff and inventories necessary to support Windstream’s substantial non-affiliate (non-Windstream telephone company) customers. In addition to its existing operations in Welcome, N.C. and Winston-Salem, N.C., Walker will operate a satellite sales and marketing office in Alpharetta, Ga., which is the current location of the acquired Windstream functions.
