(Wake Forest, N.C.) PowerSecure International, Inc. (Nasdaq: POWR) reported its proprietary IDG® PowerBlock generator technology operated flawlessly to support a West Coast data center during the recent blackout. PowerSecure’s PowerBlock system carried the full load of the facility for the eleven hour duration of the blackout, protecting the data center’s operations until utility power was restored. The widespread nature and timing of the outage also impacted the ability of the data center to ensure its fuel supply was adequate – and PowerSecure’s employees quickly initiated actions on behalf of the customer to ensure fuel was readily available for any possible outage duration. If service personnel can’t access the meter, a second trip is required, further increasing operational costs. Sensus, a utility infrastructure company providing solutions for the gas industry, is now offering the first stand-alone Remote Gas Shutoff (RGS) device. Gas utilities can now safely discontinue service on the first call by accessing the RGS as a walk-by or drive-by system. Utilities that have deployed the Sensus FlexNet™ fixed-base communications system can do so from an office location. (Charlotte, N.C.) The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) (NYSE: BWC) and its consortium partner, BE&K Construction Company, LLC (BE&K), have been awarded a contract worth more than $668 million to engineer, design, procure and construct a new, state-of-the-art waste-to-energy power plant for the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County in West Palm Beach, Fla. B&W also was awarded a contract to provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the new facility. The first 10-year phase of the 20-year O&M agreement is valued at approximately $235 million.
